Bel Aire Virtual Spring Concert Instructions
Since the Bel Aire Chorus will not be able to hold a live concert this spring, I would like to provide students an opportunity to participate in a virtual performance instead. Here are the instructions for participation in this event:
1. We will be performing 3 chorus songs: "Wings", "Canta Conmigo", and "Shooting Star".
2. Go to the Bel Aire Chorus tab (http://belairemusic.reedschools.org/chorus.html) and practice the songs along with the piano parts until you can sing them confidently and with polish. Do not rush this process! The chorus generally practices for many weeks before we are ready to perform. You should do the same. Recordings that are clearly rough and under-rehearsed will be returned so that you can practice them further. Remember that 3rd graders should sing part1 (the melody), and 4th and 5th grade students are singing part 2 (the harmony).
3. Video record yourself, or have a family member video record you, singing the songs along with the piano part.
4. Important: You must use headphones while making this video. No sound should be coming out of your computer or iPad--this will interfere with the soundtrack I plan to use for our movie! I prefer earbuds rather than noise canceling headphones, as it is easier to hear your singing as well as the piano at the same time.
5. Email me (jgist@reedschools.org) your video recording, or you can upload it to Google Drive and then share it with me.
6. Finally, I will schedule a Zoom meeting where all the students involved will be video-recorded singing though all the songs.
7. The Deadline for turning in your video recordings is Friday, May 21st.

Route 66 – Words and Music by Bobby Troup
If you ever plan to motor west,
Travel my way, take the highway that is best.
Get your kicks on route sixty-six.
It winds from Chicago to LA,
More than two thousand miles all the way.
Get your kicks on route sixty-six.
Now you go through Saint Looey
Joplin, Missouri,
And Oklahoma City is mighty pretty.
You see Amarillo,
Gallup, New Mexico,
Flagstaff, Arizona.
Don't forget Winona,
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernandino.
Won't you get hip to this timely tip:
When you make that California trip
Get your kicks on route sixty-six.

Shooting Star Andy Beck
1. Star shining bright in the middle of the night,Oh, star in the midnight sky.
Star shining bright in the middle of the night,
How did you learn to fly? How did you learn to fly?
2. Star shining bright in the middle of the night,Oh, star with a tail of white,
Star shining bright in the middle of the night,
Grant me a wish tonight. Grant me a wish tonight.
Star so bright. Shooting star, now that you’re in my view,
Shooting star, make my wish come true.
3. Star shining bright in the middle of the night,Oh, star in the sky so vast,
Star shining bright in the middle of the night,
Don’t disappear too fast. Don’t disappear too fast.
Shooting star, why must you fade away?Shooting star, don’t you want to stay?
Oh, shooting star, oh, shooting star,
I’ll see you again some day.

Wings Carl Strommen
1. And give me wings to travel swiftly
O’er fields of green and skies of blue.
And let my wings lift me higher
And bring me home to you.
2. And give me wings to ride the wind
Through winter storm and summer’s light.
And let my wings lift me higher
And bring me through the night.
Chorus:
Carry me high above the water.
Carry me high above the plain.
Carry me far beyond the rising of the sun.
Bring me home again. (Repeat chorus)
3. And give me wings to see the mountain.
To ride above the clouds so high.
And let my wings lift me higher,
And bring me through the night.
4. And give me wings to feel the windsong.
And let me fly above the sky.
And let my wings lift me higher
And bring me to your side.
Chorus

Wake Me Up! Tim Berling, Aloe Blacc, and Michael Einzinger
1. Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start
2. They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes
Well that's fine by me
Chorus
So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost
Interlude
3. I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don't have any plans
4. Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life's a game made for everyone
And love is the prize
Chorus
So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost
Interlude
So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost
Didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost

Un Poco Loco
Un Poco Loco Music by Germaine Franco; lyrics by Adrian Molina
What color is the sky
¡Ay, mi amor! ¡Ay, mi amor!
You tell me that it's red
¡Ay, mi amor! ¡Ay, mi amor!
Where should I put my shoes
¡Ay, mi amor! ¡Ay, mi amor!
You say put them on your head
¡Ay, mi amor! ¡Ay, mi amor!
You make me un poco loco
Un poquititito loco
The way you keep me guessing
I'm nodding and I'm yessing
I'll count it as a blessing
That I'm only
Un poco loco
(clapping)
The loco that you make me
It is just un poco crazy
The sense that you're not making
The liberties you're taking
Leaves my cabeza shaking
You are just
Un poco loco.
He’s just un poco crazy
Leaves my cabeza shaking
He’s just un poco crazy
Leaves my cabeza shaking
He’s just un poco crazy
Leaves my cabeza shaking
He’s just un poco crazy
Leaves my cabeza shaking.
Un poquititi-ti-ti-ti-ti-ti-ti-ti-ti-ti-ti-ti-to loco!
